What is Comprehension?

Comprehension is the understanding & Interpretation of what is communicated. Reading Comprehension is the understanding & interpretation of the written word. Basically, there are two distinct genres in reading: Fictional Literature & Non-Fictional Literature.

For reading comprehension to occur, a reader needs to be able to (1) decode the printed text, (2) build connections between the printed text and what they know, and (3) think, analyze, and interpret what they read with their current knowledge, creating new, enhanced understanding.
