Fluency Building: Readers’ Theatre

Readers’ Theatre

With Readers’ Theatre, children rehearse and perform a play for others. They read from scripts that are rich in dialogue - these may be based on stories. Children play characters who speak lines or a narrator who shares necessary background information. Readers' Theatre provides readers with a legitimate reason to re-read text and to practice fluency. Readers' Theatre also promotes cooperative interaction with others and makes the reading task appealing.

GOALS of Readers’ Theatre

Model Accuracy: Through the use of a script and reading together with others for an audience, accuracy of the text is modeled.

Model Fluid Pace: Through the use of a script and reading together with others for an audience, fluid pace of the text is modeled.

Model Expression: Through the use of a script and reading together with others for an audience, expression of the text is modeled.
