Let’s Get Building
Lots of face-to-face interactions with songs, rhymes, finger plays, actions, and real-life experiences create the base for developing literacy skills in young readers. Through a wide variety of hands-on activities, with talking as the framework, emergent readers will build a strong foundation for literacy.
Help build awareness of letter sounds through hands-on creative activities. Talk about the sounds the designs begin with and end with. Over-emphasize the beginning & ending sounds, and have your helper repeat.
At this young age, surround your child with an assortment of activities. Not all of the activities mentioned may be developmentally appropriate at all ages.
